Ciao! Today was a very interesting and exciting experience! I started out my morning with breakfast down in the hotel Turin lobby. I have been able to finally find something there that I don't mind to eat. It is a type of apple pastry. It is almost like a toaster strudel! After that, my classmates, Dr. Marciano, Mr. Ray, and I loaded up in taxis and headed to our first elementary school. The class we started in was a fourth grade classroom!

My group! |
The students could speak some English but mostly Italian and French.I noticed that the students all changed shoes and put on Crocs, which is a type of slipper. Dr. Marciano gave a brief introduction in Italian and allowed the students to ask us questions. They were shy at first but eventually the questions began to roll!
We broke down into groups led by my classmates and I. In each group, we read the wordless picture book "Where's Walrus!" My group loved it and thought it was very funny. I was able to share with them a puppet I made representing a character from the book! The students were given the opportunity to draw a picture of where walrus could have ran off to in their city of Valle D' Aosta!

Student work! |
The area most students chose was Mont Blanc. It is a very beautiful place to them and they were all excited to draw walrus on the mountain! Afterwards, we taught the students a song in English! The song was Head,Shoulders, Knees, And Toes!
We went over it with them and challenged them to sing along! Afterwards, they sang it to us in Italian. They decided that they also wanted to sing us a song they knew in French. It was awesome watching them sing! We took some group photos and left the class to go to another.

Second classroom group! |
The next classroom was a fifth grade classroom. They also wore the Crocs and some had on school jackets that were blue. This class seemed to be a lot more advanced. The students spoke more English. We did the same routine with these students as before.

My group was silly! |
They also loved the book! The drawings in this class were far more advanced than before. The students also loved to engage themselves with my classmates and me. We taught the students the Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes song and If You Are Happy And You Know It, Clap Your Hands! We took our photos and left out for lunch! I was finally able to find a hamburger and it tasted good!

Second classroom! |
After lunch, we went to another elementary school! This time, we really just talked to the students. We asked them their likes and dislikes and just gave them some practice hearing English. We did not use our book but we did teach them the Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes song! Afterwards, a new class came in after school was out just to hear us speak English! It was an awesome experience. To end the day, we are eating supper with The high school teach, Elana! I am ready to see what types of adventures tomorrow holds!

Yeah... You officially have been an Italian school teacher - for a few hours, anyway!
